Chanoyu — The Way of Tea

In Japan, matcha has been valued for its medicinal properties and enjoyed in the form of wabi-cha for over 450 years. This tradition is about finding beauty in imperfection and simplicity: a single bowl served by the host that honors the present moment with the guest.

On May 15th, guests will participate in a Japanese tea ceremony demonstration which includes a bowl of hand-whisked matcha as well as seasonal sweets, and time to reflect in the historic gardens of Evermay in Georgetown. Guests will also learn about tea etiquette and how to receive and drink a bowl of matcha from the Omotesenke School of teachers and practitioners.

Three sittings: 12pm, 2pm, and 4pm. Each session is separately ticketed and lasts a little over one hour. Seating is in chairs, not on the floor. Free parking is available on site. Open to all; no prior experience necessary.
