Indoor Car Boot Community Sale

Founded in 1889 and serving the Burgh for 137 years, Rutherglen Baptist Church is now undergoing a major transformation.
The church has continued to serve the community, adopting the name Rutherglen Baptist Community Church in the 1990s. Its halls and sanctuary have hosted regular worship and prayer, baptisms, weddings, and funerals, and have provided a home for ARK Out of School Care, Rutherglen and Cambuslang Men’s Shed, the Foodbank, Messy Church, Universal Serenity, kettlebells, and other community groups.
However, the buildings need major investment in roofs, drains, décor and disabled access, costing hundreds of thousands of pounds.
We do not believe this is the best use of the congregation’s resources. Designed for Victorian and Edwardian church use, the premises no longer meet the needs and vision of our Christian faith community in Rutherglen as we seek to serve the Burgh’s spiritual and practical needs.
The congregation has begun working with a local development company to repurpose the buildings and identify a new use for the site that better meets current community needs.
It is not just about buildings, it is about engaging with new groups and exploring their spiritual needs.
The congregation will hold its final service at Greenhill Road on Sunday 23 August 2026. This decision was difficult but necessary, honouring the pioneering faith of those who first met in King Street in 1889.
From Sunday 30 August at 10.45am, services will move to No 18, Healthy & Happy, on Farmeloan Road. All hall users have been relocated except the Men’s Shed, and anyone able to help is asked to get in touch urgently.
Before then, an Indoor Car Boot Community Sale will take place at Greenhill Road on Friday 24 July from 6.30pm to 9pm and Saturday 25 July from 10am to 4pm, with free entry and many items for sale.
