Indigo Hour: Lauren-Ashley at the Blue Room
About this Event
The Indigo Hour is how the Blue Room does happy hour: live music on the bandstand starting at five-thirty, the week left at the door. This Friday, the songbird takes it.
Her family named her "the songbird" long before Kansas City did. Lauren-Ashley grew up a preacher's kid in St. Louis, a shy girl whose father — an AME pastor — kept nudging her toward the microphone. It took years for the world to hear what her family already knew. After moving to Kansas City in 2019, she found herself hosting karaoke nights, and somewhere between songs she fell back in love with her own voice. Her first open mic, in September 2022, left no doubt: "It was this performance that solidified that I should be sharing my talent."
What happened next happened fast. By January 2023 she had launched her own band, The Songbird Experience, stocked with some of KC's finest players. They've since played more than two dozen venues across Kansas and Missouri, hit the KC Pride stage, and brought their live show to FOX 4's Great Day KC. Her sound blends classic soul with contemporary R&B, neo-soul, and gospel — a voice that's equal parts church, velvet, and fire. And when she's not on stage? She holds a doctorate, serves as a minister, and is a foster parent. Songbird barely covers it.
Come early, grab a drink, and ease into the weekend with her. $5 at the door, free for AJM members — seats fill up.
The Blue Room, 1600 E 18th St, Kansas City, MO 64108. Friday, August 21 at 5:30 pm.
