Indigo Hour: Lady D at the Blue Room
About this Event
The Indigo Hour is how the Blue Room does happy hour: live music on the bandstand starting at five-thirty, the week left at the door. This Friday, it belongs to Lady D.
*Lady D is a Kansas City fixture with a voice rooted in gospel, old-school R&B, and blues. She recognized her gift at age 8, singing in church choirs, local gospel groups, and countless talent shows. In her teen years she recorded a gospel album and appeared on the Bobby Jones Gospel* show — early stages for a vocalist who would go on to share bills with some of the biggest names in R&B.
The list of artists Lady D has opened for reads like a living history of Black American music: Roger Troutman & Zapp, Brian McKnight, Najee, Peabo Bryson, Kool & the Gang, and Howard Hewitt. Her style is an eclectic mix of jazz, old-school R&B, and blues, with sets sprinkled with a smooth blend of all three.
Her crowd interaction is legendary — audiences don't just watch a Lady D show, they're part of it. Come early, grab a drink, and settle in. $5 at the door, free for AJM members — seats fill up.
The Blue Room, 1600 E 18th St, Kansas City, MO 64108. Friday, August 14 at 5:30 pm.
