Indigo Hour: Delynia Jannell at the Blue Room
About this Event
Delynia Jannell has been singing since she was two years old, starting on the church pews of Bethel Church of God in Christ in Kansas City, Kansas, where her father later became pastor. That foundation — where music and faith are the same thing — has never left her voice.
Delynia earned a vocal music scholarship to Washburn University, where her talent expanded from gospel into R&B, jazz, blues, pop, neo-soul, and opera. The stages that followed tell the story: in 1999, she sang background for Shania Twain during the Kansas City tour. In 2000, she was the featured soloist in "This Little Light of Mine" at Carnegie Hall and traveled to London with the Washburn University Choir. She's provided background vocals for Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko, Stevie Stone, E-40, and Kelley Hunt, and performed with Kyla Jade on the Philip Collins Experience tour.
Today, Delynia holds residencies at Sullivan's Steakhouse and both Johnnie's Jazz Bar locations, leads the Delynia Jannell Ensemble, and sings lead for Boogie Nights KC and Simply Tina, a Tina Turner tribute band. With original music on the way, the best may be yet to come.
Come early, grab a drink, and settle in. $5 at the door, free for AJM members — seats fill up.
