Improv for Writers
About this Event
Through fun, low-pressure exercises and games, participants will learn to trust their creative instincts, think generatively, and trust their story choices.
No acting or improv experience required. This class is designed for writers of all levels, from beginners looking to strengthen their storytelling to experienced writers seeking to level up their creativity.
Improv for Writers is taught by Jeannine Clarke and Jeremy Robkin.
Skills offered in class: idea generation, learning core storytelling beats, getting past your self-censors, strengthening story pacing, overcoming writer's block, thinking flexibly when your story takes a turn.
Objective: To provide writers with improv tools to expand their storytelling and tap into their creativity.
Dates: August 5, 12, 19, and 26. 7-9pm

About the instructors:
Jeannine Clarke
Jeannine is an ominously positive creative making improvisational theater and writing speculative fiction in Seattle.
She has been a professional improvisational theatre performer, director, and teacher for 20+ years. She has worked with Jet City Improv, 4&20 Improv, NerdPROV, Seattle Experimental Theatre and Unexpected Productions, where she has been a cast member for 11 years.
As a writer, her short stories have been featured in Luna Station Quarterly and the Santa Barbara Literary Journal. She is currently completing her second novel and editing her first.
Jeremy Robkin
An alumni of Unexpected Production classes and a cofounder of Eastside Story, Once Told Tales, Schrödinger’s CatBox, and Duvall Improv Social Club Jeremy has been a member of the greater Seattle improv community since 1988.
Most recently, he spends his evenings performing and teaching improv with Duvall Improv Social Club and writing science fiction, fantasy, and poetry.
A member of the Duvall poetry community, Jeremy Robkin co-hosts the Duvall Poetry Open Mic. He fuses his love for improv and poetry, creating poems on the fly based on a single word provided by the audience
