Imprints of Space, surrounding Rachel Whiteread's "Cabin", invites visitors to make their own small-scale casts of remembered spaces.
About this Event

Rachel Whiteread­’s Cab­in, a per­ma­nent pub­lic art­work tucked into the foliage of Dis­cov­ery Hill, uses a con­crete cast of a cab­in to prompt retreat and intro­spec­tion in the view­er. On June’s THIRD Sat­ur­day, pre­sent­ed by Red Hook Art Project, Island vis­i­tors will be able to cre­ate small-scale casts or impres­sions of imag­ined or remem­bered spaces that hold mean­ing to them, ulti­mate­ly form­ing a col­lec­tive instal­la­tion that serves as a shared map of com­mu­ni­ty spaces. This event is free and open to all.

This event is part of Governors Island Arts' Third SATURDAYS program, featuring special free programming designed to build community and highlight the unique artistic ecosystem of the Island.

Governors Island Arts presents its program with support from Charina Endowment Fund, Anonymous, Donald A. Pels Charitable Trust, Surgo Foundation US, the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature, Ripple Foundation, Great Hill, and the Howard Gilman Foundation.
