How to Write a Romance Novel in 10 steps presented by Claire Dunn
About this Event
Join screenwriter/novelist/playwright Claire Ross Dunn for a 2-hour, 10-step session on how to write a romance novel. We’ll look at several systems for breaking either books or movies—The Hero’s Journey, Jessica Brody’s Save the Cat Writes a Novel, Billy Mernit’s Writing the Romantic Comedy, Hallmark Channel’s 9-act formula, and Gwen Hayes’ Romancing the Beat—and create a beat sheet deluxe to help you structure your next romance novel or refine the one you’re working on now.
Claire Ross Dunn is the screenwriter behind two romance movies for streaming, and two novels: At Last Count, a Globe and Mail Best Book and romance finalist for the Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writers Prize, and Lost in France, to be published June 23, 2026. All level of writing experience are welcome for this fun workshop. $20 along with the purchase of Lost in France (book to be purchased in store during the event).
