Should You Date a Lawyer or a Politician?
About this Event
📚Lecture: "Should You Date a Lawyer or Politician?"
🎤Speaker: Jasmine Jin (Student/Legal Assistant/Ex-House of Commons)
"Lawyers and politicians have more in common than either profession would like to admit." Both love arguing, both are masters of persuasion, and both can turn a simple question into a five-minute answer. But when it comes to dating, the similarities start to fade.
Join us for a deep dive into where law and policy intersect and where they dramatically part ways. Through case studies on current Canadian legislations, legal case studies and political initiatives. With a healthy amount of debate, we'll examine the strengths, weaknesses, red flags, and redeeming qualities of each profession. Who is more likely to send a carefully drafted text? Who can never give a straight answer? Who has the bigger ego, the bigger heart, and the bigger collection of excuses?
By the end of the night, you'll leave with new legal and political knowledge while being more equipped to answer the question: should you date the lawyer or the politician?
Jasmine Jin is graduating from the University of Ottawa in Honours Bachelor's in Political Science with a minor in law in French. She will be going to law school the upcoming year. She has 4 years of experience at Trudel Law Office and previously served as an ex-house of commons Parliamentary Assistant Intern with the office of MP Kristina Tesser Derksen. She is interested in becoming a transactional lawyer, but also very passionate about people.
