How to Live & Make Art in These F**ked-Up Times
About this Event
Overwhelmed by politics, chaos, and the general "enshittification" of life? Come for an afternoon of laughs, inspiration, and honest reflection.
In the second edition of this experimental show, a diverse lineup of musicians and comedians confronts our dumpster-fire reality using an artist’s best tools: imagination, humor, and vulnerability. Many artists feel discouraged right now, but creativity is needed more than ever. As this show proves with a series of hilarious and moving performances, followed by a freewheeling conversation about today’s unique challenges—think PBS NewsHour, but more badass!
Special Guest Lineup
Negin Farsad: Regular panelist on NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me!, host of the political-comedy podcast Fake the Nation, and performer on the comedy tour “The Muslims Are Coming!”
Calvin Cato: Stand-up comedian named one of TimeOut’s "LGBTQ Comics of Color to Watch." He has performed around the country, in Europe, and in the middle of the ocean on cruise ships.
Tomas Rodriguez: Acclaimed guitarist and composer, whose original works blend Spanish flamenco, Afro-Peruvian, Cuban, and West African music. His album Whispered Awakening, is “highly recommended” by The New York Times.
Tanasha G: A dynamic singer-songwriter and dancer, known for her vibrant pop-up dances around NYC and her anthemic singles, such as "Be Who You Are” and “Two Red Lights.”
Hosted & Produced By
Hasina Foye (Host): Aspiring journalist, social media consultant, and conversation-sparker. She is a recent graduate of Fordham University.
Tim Ellis (Producer & Performer): “One of Brooklyn's sharpest singer-songwriter-comedians" (BOPS). He recently released the four-EP “Songs of the Seasons” project, and he performed with comedian Dave Hill in the show “Comedy Rock: Soft and Hard.”
