About this Event
Join us for a hands-on workshop on "How to Create Kokedama: Japanese-style Houseplant Display with Moss Balls"!
Learn the Japanese art of Kokedama, where plants are displayed in moss-covered balls. In this workshop, you'll create your own Kokedama to take home and enjoy. No prior experience is necessary, just bring your creativity!
What to expect:
- During the workshop, you will be guided step by step through crafting your kokedama.
- Learn how to properly select plants, create the soil mixture, and wrap everything in a moss ball.
- By the end of the class, you'll have your stunning kokedama to take home and proudly display or gift for the Holidays or other occasions.
What to bring:
🌿 MATERIALS
Plant: Ivy, fern, (or similar shady plant type)
Sphagnum sheet moss, dry floral moss, or harvested moss
Potting soil (2-3 cups)
Peat moss (2-3 cups)
Bowl
🌿 TOOLS:
Scissors
Latex gloves
Fish line (transparent), twine, or waxed string, floral wire
Note: To prep before the meeting you can pre-mix your soil (1:1 mix of peat moss and indoor potting mix)
Things to Consider: The ideal plants for a kokedama are slow-growing with small root systems. Consider where it will sit or hang. Overall, the plant should be simple to care for and able to handle soggy conditions. Because moss may burn quickly in direct sunlight and annuals don't stay long indoors, look into perennials that grow in partial to complete shade.
Here are some examples: Anthurium, Asparagus fern and other ferns, Begonias, Creeping fig, Cyclamen, Dracaena Elephant ear, Grape ivy, Jacob’s ladder, Lucky bamboo, Peace lily, Peperomia, Philodendron, Pothos Prayer plant, Rabbit’s foot fern, Rosemary and similar
Don't miss out on this opportunity to create some plant magic and add a touch of zen to your home decor!
