Building Community Through Stories: How to Be Free Community Book Read
Join Keys to Life Alaska for the launch of a community-wide reading experience centered around How to Be Free: A Proven Guide to Escaping Life’s Hidden Prisons by New York Times bestselling author Shaka Senghor.
We’re bringing readers, book clubs, community members, and organizations together to explore Shaka’s powerful work—and we’d love for you to be part of it!
Thursday, October 22nd, 2026
5:30–7:30 PM
BP Energy Center 1014 Energy Court, Anchorage
At the launch, registered participants can receive a FREE copy of How to Be Free, learn more about Shaka and the book, connect with other participants, and enjoy light refreshments.
Then, read along with us as we prepare to welcome Shaka Senghor to Anchorage on January 14th, 2027, for a live presentation at the Sydney Laurence Theatre at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts.
Shaka is a bestselling author and nationally recognized speaker whose work explores transformation, resilience, accountability, and the ways we can free ourselves from the prisons—both visible and invisible—that keep us from becoming who we are capable of being.
Whether you join with a book club, bring a friend, participate with an organization, or simply read along on your own, everyone is welcome.
Books are free, but space and copies are limited. Register early to reserve your spot and receive your book.
