Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Event - Kingston

The UCRRA Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Events are an environmentally-sound and convenient way for Ulster County residents to dispose of hazardous materials. This program is offered at no cost to Ulster County residents. All participants must pre-register before the event and comply with all program rules.
All attendees are responsible for understanding the program rules and the list of accepted and unauthorized waste. Review this information and compare with your items very carefully. Contact the Agency with any questionable items, specific questions, or if you have unknown or unlabeled waste. We reserve the right to turn away persons who do not comply with the program rules.
Rules:
Ulster County Residents ONLY
Commercial Waste will NOT be accepted
Appointments are REQUIRED
A quantity limit will be strictly enforced!
Keep items in original containers
Put all items in the trunk of your car
Containers will NOT be returned
Stay in your vehicle at all times

Accepted Items:
Aerosols (spray cans)
Adhesives, glues, etc.
Automotive cleaners & fluids (antifreeze, brake/transmission fluid, oil filters, etc.) – NO MOTOR OIL
Backtop and asphalt tar – accepted only in liquid form – from residential uses – up to five gallon bucket size
Bug spray, insecticides, rat poisons, mothballs, etc.
Fire extinguishers
Fluorescent light bulbs (CFL’s, UV, tubes, spirals, etc.)
Household cleaners (oven, toilet, drain, carpet, window, bleach, disinfectant, all-purpose, etc.)
Lawn & garden chemicals (pesticides, fertilizers, etc.)
Mercury, thermostats, thermometers
Mineral spirits, turpentine, etc.
Paint products: lead, oil-based, and latex
Propane tanks – small camp size up to standard BBQ grill size
Photography chemicals
Pool chemicals
Roofing tar – accepted only in liquid form – – from residential uses – up to five gallon bucket size
Stains, varnishes, etc.
Sealants, caulk, adhesives, etc.
Waste fuels: all types such as kerosene, gasoline, propane, etc.
Wood cleaners & stains (polishes, waxes, varnishes, sealants, etc.)

These items are NOT ACCEPTED:
NO non-hazardous waste
NO Motor Oil
NO Batteries (except automotive batteries)
NO Explosives, ammunition, gun powder, or fireworks
NO Asbestos
NO Radioactive materials
NO Large drums or waste in containers larger than 5 gallons
NO Smoke detectors
NO Empty containers
NO Electronic items (computers, televisions, etc.)
NO Freon Appliances (air conditioners, refrigerators, etc.)
NO Medical waste – (SHARPS, home-use medical needles) or other etiological, pathological waste
NO Beauty products (make-up, lotion, nail polish, etc.)
NO Pharmaceuticals – Find a drop-off location near you
NO Waste from businesses, schools, farms, etc. These facilities must contact a Hazardous Waste/Environmental Services Company.
