About this Event

An interactive research impact showcase and social innovation launch

Homelessness cannot be understood through numbers alone, or addressed by services working in isolation. Behind every statistic is a person navigating experiences, systems and decisions that are not always visible to others.

This special impact event brings together lived experience, research, policy and community-led innovation to explore how homelessness is understood and how local communities can become part of the response.

Launching a new approach to local action:

The event will launch a new digital partnership involving Voice for Locals, connecting people experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping with participating businesses on their local high streets.

Through a points-based system, individuals will be able to access points contributed by local businesses and exchange them for essential goods and services within their community. The initiative is grounded in a simple principle: homelessness is everyone’s concern, and local communities can play a meaningful role in addressing local needs.

The partnership will also support the development of a digital dashboard offering greater insight into homelessness and rough sleeping across participating boroughs. Used alongside existing manual counts, this information could help researchers, local authorities and community partners build a fuller picture of the scale and changing patterns of local need.

Experience the research

Alongside the launch, guests will be invited to experience all three interactive, research-led exhibits (featured from Dr Jogie's research):

Another Day in Paradise

A three-dimensional installation, originally showcased at the British Academy, drawing on research into the everyday movements and lived experiences of people facing homelessness. Visitors are invited to move beyond the statistics and consider what it means to walk through a day in someone else’s shoes.

Layers of Harm: Violence, Abuse and Homelessness

An interactive card simulation exploring the overlapping forms of violence and abuse experienced by women facing homelessness. Participants will discover how trauma, fear, coercion and financial abuse can shape what a woman is able to communicate—and how easily complex needs can remain unheard or misunderstood.

The latest government figures reveal the urgency of this issue: between January and March 2026, domestic abuse was the second most common reason households were already homeless, affecting 7,610 households—17% of the total.

Through the simulation, participants are invited to look beyond the statistic and consider what a more informed, compassionate and effective response could look like.

'Churn' The Policy Board Game - Homelessness Policy Edition

An interactive exploration of homelessness policy across different eras of government. Participants will encounter the political pressures, institutional constraints and competing priorities that help explain why meaningful and sustained policy change has proved so difficult to achieve.

Together, these experiences demonstrate how creative and participatory research can build empathy, expose systemic barriers and inspire more informed action.

We warmly invite researchers, policymakers, practitioners, local businesses, community organisations and members of the public to join us—to listen, participate and consider what meaningful local action on homelessness could look like.
