Hitchcock Woods Afterschool Youth Birdwalk

Please note that registration is required and carpooling is highly encouraged.

Join HWF for an afterschool youth birdwalk led by our Education & Grants Coordinator, Heather Levy. Children and teens ages 12-17 accompanied by an adult are welcome. We will begin at the Tea Cottage Entrance (33.5566, -81.7530/Dibble Rd across from Rhone St) and walk a ~1.5 mile loop to explore the diversity of birdlife in Hitchcock Woods, focusing on migrants and breeding birds. Trails are sandy and hilly, but we will walk slowly and make frequent stops. There are no public restrooms or places to refill a water bottle, so please plan accordingly.

Recommended things to bring:

• Comfortable hiking shoes
• Water
• Snacks
• Hat
• Sunscreen
• Binoculars (at this time, the Foundation does not have any loaner binoculars)
• Camera
• eBird app loaded on smart phone
• Merlin Bird ID app loaded on smart phone
• Notebook/pencil for recording observations

About Hitchcock Woods: Hitchcock Woods, nestled in the heart of Aiken, South Carolina, is the largest urban forest in the United States at 2,100 acres. Open daily from sunrise to sunset, its 70 miles of trails offer a haven to the public on foot and horseback.
