Join HWF for a morning of surveying for Eastern Bluebirds in the Woods!
About this Event

Join Hitchcock Wood’s Education and Grants Coordinator, Heather Levy, for a morning of surveying for Eastern Bluebirds! Organized by National Audubon Society, Climate Watch is a community science program that explores how bird species are responding to changes in climate. We will count bluebirds at designated survey locations in the Woods. We will be hiking on foot between points, so please wear comfortable shoes and bring water, snacks, and binoculars if you have them. No previous bird identification experience is required, and we encourage anyone interested to come watch how a bird survey is conducted! The surveys should take approximately 2 hours to complete (including walking in between the points), but you are welcome to leave at any point. Hitchcock Woods does not have public restrooms or a place to refill a water bottle, so please plan accordingly.

About Hitchcock Woods: Hitchcock Woods, nestled in the heart of Aiken, South Carolina, is the largest urban forest in the United States at 2,100 acres. Open daily from sunrise to sunset, its 70 miles of trails offer a haven to the public on foot and horseback. Owned and managed by the Hitchcock Woods Foundation, the Woods comprise a mosaic of mature pine forests and bottomland hardwood forests, supporting a diversity of plants and wildlife. The Woods is protected in perpetuity by a conservation easement held by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and is a designated South Carolina Heritage Preserve Trust site. You can learn more about the Woods at www.hitchcockwoods.org.
