HISTORY + COCKTAILS: CLOSING NEW INLET & THE SWASH DEFENSE DAM
About this Event
HISTORY + COCKTAILS: CLOSING NEW INLET & THE SWASH DEFENSE DAM
Ever wonder how the Cape Fear’s waterways were shaped into what we know today?
This event explores the effort to close New Inlet and the story of the Swash Defense Dam — an ambitious chapter in the engineering and maritime history of the Cape Fear.
What was the problem they were trying to solve? How did they attempt to change the waterways? And what did it mean for the communities, shipping and economy of the area?
🎙️ Local historian Jim “Boo” McKee will take us through the history, the challenges and the people behind the project.
🍹 And we’ll have a themed cocktail inspired by the evening’s topic to go along with the story.
