About this Event

Do you think deeply about almost everything?

Do you replay conversations afterwards, wondering what you said, what they meant, and whether you missed something?

Do you think through every possible outcome before making a decision, sometimes to the point where you are exhausted before you have even started?

Do you notice subtleties, patterns and small changes that other people seem to miss?

Do you need time to process experiences properly, rather than simply moving on to the next thing?

And does all that processing, noticing and feeling sometimes leave you overwhelmed?

You may be highly sensitive.

A central feature of high sensitivity is depth of processing. HSPs tend to process information and experiences more deeply. That can bring insight, intuition, creativity and a rich inner life. It can also mean overthinking, difficulty switching off, becoming overstimulated and needing more time to recover.

For many people, discovering that there is research behind this trait brings a huge sense of recognition. Things they have puzzled over for years begin to make sense.

I’ve worked with highly sensitive people for more than 15 years and I see this again and again. Understanding the trait can change the way you understand yourself. Learning how to live well with it can change a great deal more.

That is what this day is about.

What you’ll get from the day
  • A clear understanding of high sensitivity and the research behind it
  • A better understanding of your own depth of processing and why your mind can be so difficult to switch off
  • Ways of recognising overload earlier and understanding what helps you recover
  • Practical tools for working with your nervous system rather than continually pushing through
  • A chance to explore the strengths of sensitivity as well as the parts that can be difficult
  • Time with other highly sensitive people who understand what it is like to experience the world this way

Not sure whether you’re highly sensitive?

You can take Highly Sensitive Person self-test before the event.

It isn’t a diagnostic test, and you don’t need to be sure that you are highly sensitive before coming along.

Your facilitators
Cindy Gale is a UKCP-registered psychotherapist, Highly Sensitive Person specialist and founder of HSPconnect.

She has worked therapeutically with Highly Sensitive People for more than 15 years and has trained with and learned from leading figures in the field, including Dr Elaine Aron.

Much of Cindy’s work is about helping highly sensitive people understand their sensitivity more fully and work out what they need in order to live well.

Dr Andrew May is a leading researcher in sensitivity and Sensory Processing Sensitivity.

Andrew will explore the research underpinning high sensitivity, what it tells us about the trait, some of the theories that help explain it, and some of the areas where the picture is more complex than popular descriptions of HSPs sometimes suggest.

Andrew has a real gift for making the science clear, interesting and relevant. He brings the research to life, including through experiential exercises, and has a way of leaving you wanting to know more.

Priyal Shah developed the HSPreset Toolbox, a practical collection of body-based ways to help highly sensitive people recognise when they are becoming overloaded and find ways to reset.

His work draws on breathwork, meditation, movement and body awareness, with simple practices that can be used in everyday life.
