About this Event

One of the Hidden Waterways walks this summer. A chance to follow the Lockburn stream on its journey from the city centre to St Cross.

Join two of Winchester’s professional guides for a 2 hour walking tour, starting at Winchester Visitor Information Centre and finishing near the Hospital of St Cross. Participants must make their own way back to Winchester (on foot or there are regular buses). The walk is appropriately 1 mile.

This companion tour to Winnall Moors on 9th May and Hidden Waterways on 15th August focuses on the Lockburn, a waterway created in medieval times as an extension of the city’s streams to the south. It was designed to be a drainage system for the Cathedral monastery, Winchester College and the almshouses at St Cross. This walk tells its story and follows its course around the Cathedral Close, past the College and through the water meadows to the Hospital of St Cross. Finishes at the Hospital of St Cross close to the Hundred Men’s Hall tearoom. Please wear sensible footwear.

Tickets are £12 for adults, £5 for children (under 16) and available in advance through the website or in person on the day at the Visitor Information Centre subject to availability.

Child Ticket - You will need to undertake a separate second transaction to the one used to purchase the adult tickets in your group. When booking for the children select the number of children's tickets you require under general admission category, enter the promotional code CHILD and click apply. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Carer Ticket - Tickets for an essential carer are free. You will need to undertake a separate second transaction to the one used to purchase the other tickets for your group. Please select one ticket under general admission category, enter the promotional code CARERFREE and click apply. This allows the tickets to be purchased for free.
