Join Rapport Festival, with our pilot of a journey through the vibrant tapestry of London's African diaspora heritage: 'Heritage Roots, Routes & Shoots'.
Immerse yourself in the rich history and cultural heritage of neighbourhoods such as Tottenham, Brixton, Notting Hill Gate/Ladbroke Grove, Bloomsbury/Camden.
These unique walking events combine guided tours with photography, where you'll capture the essence of historic locations using your digital or mobile phone camera. Tours are the creation of accomplished African diaspora tour guides, each walk will unveil hidden stories, landmarks, and community legacies waiting to be discovered.
You’ll take photographs as you stroll. Your photos won't just remain memories – they'll become part of an exhibition in Brixton, allowing you to share your perspective and contribute to the collective narrative of our dynamic neighbourhoods.
Discover the Unsung Heroes of Camden and Bloomsbury
Camden has a history that not everyone knows about. Come and hear Shirley Fortune give the breakdown of the area’s Black history.
Bloomsbury is now the medical and educational centre of London, famous for its charming garden squares and elegant Georgian houses. But there is also an African/Caribbean history there with ‘black fingerprints’ running through its heart – if you know where to look!
On this tour we hear about:
- The railway worker who overturned a whites-only recruitment policy
- One of the first Black women in higher education
- The first known Black British editor
- One of the UK’s first civil rights groups
- Pride and Prejudice within the British Museum
