Heritage Morning: Breathable Retrofit and Restoration Solutions
About this Event
The morning will feature a presentation from Lime Green Products Ltd exploring breathable, fabric-sensitive approaches to the retrofit and restoration of historic buildings.
Improving the performance of traditional buildings requires careful consideration of moisture movement, existing construction and historic fabric. Inappropriate materials or interventions can trap moisture and create unintended problems, while well-designed breathable systems can help improve thermal performance and protect the long-term condition of the building.
During this practical, case-study-led session, Lime Green will introduce its Warmshell wood-fibre internal wall insulation system and Room in Roof breathable insulation system. The presentation will also consider the use of lime mortars and renders in the repair and conservation of public, residential and historic buildings.
Drawing on completed projects, the session may include examples from social housing retrofit schemes and restoration work at buildings such as King’s Cross Station, Westminster Fire Station, Shakespeare’s Globe and Gunnersbury Park Museum.
The session will cover:
- The principles of breathable retrofit in traditional buildings
- Wood-fibre internal wall insulation and Room in Roof solutions
- Managing moisture while improving thermal performance
- The appropriate use of lime mortars and renders
- Key considerations when specifying materials for historic buildings
- Lessons from completed retrofit and restoration projects
The event will begin at 8:00am with breakfast, followed by the presentation and an opportunity for discussion and networking.
