Help Your Teen Athlete Perform Under Pressure
About this Event
Help Your Teen Athlete Perform Under Pressure
Is your teen athlete talented and committed, but struggling with nerves, pressure, confidence, comparison, or big emotions around competition?
This workshop is designed for parents who want to better understand how to support their young athlete before, during and after competition.
Many young athletes care deeply about their sport, but find it hard to perform when pressure increases. Some become anxious, avoidant, emotional, perfectionistic, self-critical, or overwhelmed. Parents often want to help, but it can be hard to know what to say, when to push, when to step back, and how to avoid accidentally adding more pressure.
This workshop will provide practical, evidence-informed strategies to help parents respond more effectively and support their young athlete’s confidence, resilience and performance.
We’ll cover:
• What performance anxiety actually is
• Why reassurance does not always work
• What to say before and after competition
• How to respond after a disappointing performance
• When to push, and when to step back
• How to help build confidence through experience, competence and resilience
Small group format
This is a small group workshop with limited places so there is time for questions, discussion and practical examples.
Because numbers are limited, parents will also have the opportunity to ask individual questions and discuss their own concerns.
Who this workshop is for
This workshop is for parents of competitive teen athletes who want practical strategies to support their child with pressure, confidence, motivation, emotional regulation and the demands of competitive sport.
