Healing Our Nation Together: Understanding the Racial Wealth Gap
About this Event
This powerful workshop is dedicated to exploring how America has been built through a profound contradiction: a nation that spoke the language of equality and liberty “for all” while building prosperity only for some. Together we will explore how historical federal policies created and sustained today’s racial wealth gap, especially in local contexts. Through open dialogue, and shared stories, we will understand how these federal policies unevenly distributed both benefits and harms across the the US, and illustrate specific examples in Detroit, MI. Finally, we will discuss Reparation Generation, a multiracial organization with roots in Berkeley, CA that creates and executes Reparation in Action models that demonstrate repair and healing.
Participants can expect:
- An Interactive Fact-based History
- Shared Storytelling
- Better Understanding of the Context of “Systemic Racism”
- Exploration in Reparations as a part of securing democracy
