He Kākano Ahau | Te reo Māori beginners’ course is a beginner friendly course designed to build confidence in speaking and understanding the Māori language. This course introduces learners to key cultural and language foundations, including whakapapa (genealogy), mihi (acknowledgements), and everyday conversational phrases.
Through interactive sessions and guided practice, students will learn how to introduce themselves using their own pepeha, hold simple conversations, and understand the significance of Māori language and identity.
This course will be run by Kaiako Trinity Hereora (Tainui) at Howick Historical Village. This course provides a supportive environment where learners of all backgrounds can grow their understanding of Te Reo Māori and its importance in Aotearoa today.
