Harnessing Partnerships for Accelerated Poverty Reduction Across Africa
About this Event
The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the Multidimensional Poverty Peer Network (MPPN), together with its Secretariat, the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) at the University of Oxford, are co-hosting a high-level dialogue on the pivotal role of global partnerships in poverty reduction across Africa.
Over 600 million people across the African continent continue to be affected by poverty in its multiple dimensions – deprivations in health, education, housing, sanitation, nutrition, and energy – are compounded by climate change, conflict, and persistent inequalities. At the same time, countries such as Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, Morocco, and Kenya demonstrate that accelerated reduction is achievable.
Over 50 countries have developed national MPIs, 23 of them in Africa. This meeting will bring together senior representatives from international agencies, governments, and academia to share experiences with tools such as the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), explore evidence-based solutions, and strengthen the partnerships (SDG 17) needed to advance SDG 1 ahead of 2030.
Join the conversation on how multidimensional measurement transforms policy and accelerates change.
