Description
We will focus on hand building skills like pinch pots, slab, and coil to create unique and figurative vessels to be used as reed scent diffusers or vases. Toni Hacker, creator of Beacon Mercantile, will join us part way through to help each participant make their own custom fragrance oil for their diffuser. All material will be provided.
About the instructors:
Megan Adams Irving is a painter, ceramic artist, and administrator at the Smithy Clay Studio. She has a degree in studio art from Bard College where she primarily studied painting. Her pursuit of clay and ceramic art has been largely self-driven with the support of the local clay community including Elizabeth Nields' workshops and the teaching artists at Smithy Clay Studio. Irving has exhibited her work in artist-run pop-up spaces and more traditional venues, including the Martin-Mullen Galleries at SUNY Oneonta, the Samuel S. Dorsky Museum, New Paltz, NY, the Corcoran College of Art Design, Washington, D.C., and locally, at the Smithy Gallery, The Art Garage, the Community Arts Network of Oneonta and Roxbury Arts Group.
Toni Hacker says, "I've always loved fragrance and the way that scent can completely transport you to a specific place, set a mood, and create memories." Her business uses only certified organic ingredients as carriers in their perfumes, including organic sugar cane alcohol, vegetable glycerin, shea butter, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, beeswax, and jojoba oil. Their small batch candles are hand poured and made with clean burning US grown soy wax, cotton and paper, eco-friendly wicks, and richly scented with custom perfume blends. All candles are 100% phthalate, paraben, dye, and lead free so you can enjoy the relaxing glow of a flickering flame and keep your home healthy.
