Living Positively with Huntington's Disease
About this Event

This event is being held at Brockenhurst Village Hall.

All are welcome.


Join us for a day of learning, sharing experiences, support, and community connection. Family Day brings together people living with Huntington's disease, those at risk, family members, carers, professionals, and supporters to explore how we can live positively with HD at every stage of the journey.


10:00 – 10:15 am

Welcome – Opening remarks and overview of the day.

10:15 – 10:30 am

Growing Up in a Family with HD – A Young Person's Perspective (including possible video presentation). A personal insight into what it is like to grow up in a family affected by Huntington's disease, exploring the challenges, resilience, and support that can help young people navigate life with HD in the family.

10:30 – 11:00 am

Jenny McArthur – Ambassador and Community Member. Jenny will share her personal experience of living with Huntington's disease and the impact it has had on her life. Speaking from the perspective of someone directly affected by HD, she will reflect on the challenges she has faced, the importance of maintaining independence and wellbeing, and how finding support and connection within the HD community has helped her live positively.

11:00 – 11:30 am

The Carer's Perspective – Steve Duckett. Steve will discuss the realities of caring for a loved one with Huntington's disease, including practical challenges, emotional wellbeing, sources of support, and lessons learned along the caregiving journey.

11:30 – 11:45 am

Comfort Break

11:45 am – 12:30 pm

Winscombe Care Home – Enhancing Quality of Life in the Later Stages of HD. Members of the Winscombe Care Home team will share their experience of supporting people with advanced Huntington's disease, focusing on person-centred care, maintaining dignity, meaningful activities, family involvement, and approaches that help enhance quality of life.

12:30 – 1:30 pm

Lunch

1:30 – 2:00 pm

Branch AGM – Annual review of branch activities, achievements, finances, and plans for the coming year.

2:00 – 3:00 pm

Interactive Activity Session (to be confirmed). A chance for everyone to take part in a shared activity designed to encourage connection, enjoyment, and wellbeing.

3:00 – 3:30 pm

Tea, Cake, Raffle Draw and Close – Enjoy refreshments, catch up with friends old and new, followed by the raffle draw and closing remarks.

Through personal stories, professional insights, and opportunities to connect with others, Family Day 2026 aims to provide information, encouragement, and hope for everyone affected by Huuntington's
