Before it became a Broadway smash and big-screen musical, Hairspray was John Waters at his most joyful, rebellious and gloriously subversive.
This high school cult classic follows big-haired teen dreamer Tracy Turnblad as she dances her way onto local TV and takes on racism in segregated 1960s Baltimore.
At its heart is the iconic pairing of John Waters and Divine, with Divine serving full maternal glamour as Edna Turnblad in one of queer cinema's most beloved performances. Hairspray is a feel-good favourite that still knows exactly how to cause trouble.
