This afternoon, we'll be mangiando the favorite foods of President George Washington; a few weeks later, on Saturday, June 27th at 2pm in the DeMayo Room, we'll further expand the subject into Colonial Recipes and Cooking for a bonus America250-themed
Cookbook Club meeting, where chefs will prepare sample size dishes from, or inspired by, real-life recipes from the American Colonies with no RSVP needed!
Don't feel like cooking? No problem: Join us anyway to learn more about life for the original Thirteen Colonies, and pick up tips and tricks to take back with you to the kitchen when you do feel like cooking.
So what was life like before air fryers? Like anything else, Colonial Cuisine depended a lot on where you were: New England, even back then, had a great abundance of wildlife and seafood (lobster was cheap back then!); in the mid-Atlantic region, boiling was a popular cooking method, and apple dumplings were plentiful; and in the "Backcountry", or on the frontier and in the highlands in the North and South, people relied heavily on a diet based on mush made from soured milk or boiled grains.
