Guildhall Chambers Commercial Seminar 2024
Welcome to the Guildhall Chambers Commercial Seminar 2024! This in-person seminar will be held at The Bristol Hotel on Wedensday 2 October.
This year we will be running two separate morning masterclasses.
Room 1 will be focussing on Company law matters.
Room 2 will be focussing on Financial Services.
The afternoon will be devoted to plenary sessions on interim injunctions, freezing orders and cost & own client costs disputes. This is a full day seminar and will include lunch and refreshments throughout the day. We are delighted to say that HHJ Russen will be joining us again to Chair the Seminar.

Morning Masterclass Sessions
Room 1 – Company, Joint Venture & Partnership Law session
· Shareholder remedies/derivative actions – led by Professor Christopher Hare
· Unfair prejudice petitions – a review of hot topics and common problems –led by Lottie Mallin-Martin and Jack Brett
· Remedies in partnership dissolution cases: is a buyout (per Syers v Syers (1876) 1 App. Cas. 174) still available following the decisions in Bahia [2024] EWCA Civ 605 and Cobden [2024] EWHC 1581 (Ch)? – led by Stefan Ramel
· Maximising recovery in the context of asset dissipation: transactions defending creditors and other remedies – led by James Hannant and Govinder Chambay
Room 2 - Financial Services session
· Appointed representatives and approved persons – the latest word on s.39 FSMA from the Court of Appeal in KVB & Others v Kession Capital Limited & Others [2024] EWCA Civ 765 – led by Hugh Sims KC and Jay Jagasia
· Cryptoassets: latest developments and case law update – led by Lucy Walker
· The Consumer Duty: one year on – led by Holly Doyle and Nick Evans
· Bridging Loans: a new source of claims? - led by Ollie Murrell (With a final 5-mins from Hugh Sims KC on release clauses and why the Court of Appeal got it wrong in Riley v Nat West Bank [2024] EWCA Civ 833).

· Freezing orders, image & search orders – latest precedents, developments for the urgent cases - led by James Wibberley and Richard Ascroft
