The Isle of Dogs, it's so much more than just big buildings. It's full of amazing stories of human resilience.
About this Event

The Canary Wharf and Limehouse Guided Walk from ‘Let’s Discover London’ is the story of the rise, decline and rise once more of the Isle of Dogs in London.
It's an amazing story about resilience against failure. Hear about a proud local community (who once declared their own independent country), of bustling docks filled with rum and sugar, of pirates, of executions, of the courage of digging the world‘s first under-river tunnel, of London’s first Chinese community, Chinatown, of early canal networks … most of all, it is the story of resilience.
This is walking tour of the remarkable story of the rise, decline and rise once more of the area known as the Isle of Dogs.
About this tour:
2 hours long
Starts at Canary Wharf tube and ends at Limehouse tube.
Please note: tour may be cancelled if too few bookings.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
How do I book my ticket ?
Book here to buy your ticket. I'll email you details of the exact starting point well in advance of the tour date. Please check your spam folder in case the email gets stuck.
What's the tour like?
I write all my own tours so get ready for some new stuff! I don't assume any prior knowledge of history and the tour is suitable for locals or tourists. There'll be time for questions and conversation (about the tour or about London in general ). I'll show you pictures and tell you lots of stories to really make the tour come to life.
Will the tour go ahead if there is bad weather?
Yes it will. Please wear appropriate clothing.
Who is the tour guide?
Your tour guide is me Loona, I've guided hundreds of people for over 16 years around my birthplace London was an official British Museum tour guide and am a regular speaker for platforms like Mirthy and The Joy Club.
I have advised for and made appearances on TV history shows like Urban Secrets (Sky TV), the Hairy Builder (BBC2) and The Repair Shop (BBC1) and holds a Masters degree in economics from the University of Cambridge.
How many people will be in the group?
I have a maximum of 12 people so that you have a better experience and can hear me clearly and see the images I hold. I also advertise this walk on other platforms.
What if I am late?
I prefer it if you arrive ten minutes earlier than start so that we can chat a bit. I will email you my phone number in advance of the tour but once the tour starts it's very hard for me to answer the phone so please be on time
Please visit the Transport for London website to plan your travel to the start of the tour and find out about any travel issues (such as train delays etc)
Are you insured?
Yes I have public liability insurance, but everyone is responsible for their own safety so please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. Check the weather forecast etc. But you already knew that!
Can I bring young children?
This tour is suitable for young children too as long as they are accompanied by parents.

REVIEWS:
“I was very pleasantly surprised at the professionalism, knowledge, delivery and attention to detail displayed. It was exceptionally well presented and most informative and was one of the most professionally delivered on line lectures that I have attended …and I look forward to attending future tours by Loona.” Martin Nicholls

“A first class tour guide, an excellent group facilitator and a charming person. He is inspiring, enthusiastic and with endless historical knowledge – which makes me hungry for more. We covered past history (oh so colourful…talking about the inspiration and resilience of people) and right up to the present day….Loona had a story for everything.I won’t spoil it for you by sharing too much ..just to say it really gave me an insight and food for thought.” Sue Goldstein
“From my experience Loona’s tours are head and shoulders above other tours. I will definitely be going on more tours with him and am going to enquire about a tailor made tour with him too.” Julie Bennett, tour guide
