A Two-Part Floral Design Series

Join WILD Event Florals in collaboration with Heirloom by Callahan Gardens for a two-part floral design series exploring the fundamentals of thoughtful, intentional floral design.

Each class focuses on a different layer of the design process. We dive deeper into the structure and mechanics that make an arrangement work as well as the seasonal details that bring it to life.

PART I — VESSELS + MECHANICS

The foundation of a great arrangement

We'll explore how the vessel, mechanics, and underlying framework of an arrangement influence the final design.

Participants will learn how to select vessels, create secure mechanics, establish shape and movement, and build a strong foundation that allows flowers to be arranged with intention rather than simply placed.

You’ll explore:

• How vessel choice changes the overall feeling and scale of a design
• The mechanics behind different floral arrangements
• Techniques for creating structure, stability, and movement
• How to work with floral foam, chicken wire, and other mechanics
• How to build an arrangement from the foundation up

You’ll leave with a finished arrangement and a better understanding of why a floral design works.

PART II — SEASONAL ELEMENTS

Bringing the season into your design

In the second class, we’ll move beyond traditional flowers and explore the many ways seasonal elements can transform a floral arrangement.

From branches and foliage to fruit, vegetables, pods, grasses, herbs, and unexpected botanical materials, we’ll look at how incorporating what is naturally available can add texture, movement, color, and personality to a design.

You’ll explore:

• How to identify and incorporate seasonal materials
• Using unexpected botanical elements to create visual interest
• Balancing flowers with foliage, branches, fruit, and other natural materials
• Creating texture and movement without relying solely on blooms
• How to make a floral design feel distinctly connected to its season

You’ll create a finished arrangement that celebrates the season through a thoughtful mix of flowers and unexpected natural elements.
