About this Event

Join us for a special afternoon exploring the story and legacy of extinct species through art, archives, and conversation.

Coinciding with Gone But Not Forgotten, an exhibition at Durham University featuring the Great Auk specimen from NHSN's collections, this event offers a unique opportunity to delve deeper into iconic extinct species.

Guests will have the chance to meet the artist behind the exhibition and hear about the inspiration, research, and creative process behind the work. A selection of artworks not included in the Durham exhibition will also be on display, offering an exclusive insight into the wider project.

The afternoon will also include a rare opportunity to view original Great Auk material from NHSN's North East Nature Archive (NENA), alongside other archival treasures that are not normally on public display.

Whether you are interested in art, natural history, conservation, or the stories preserved in museum collections, this event offers a fascinating exploration of how the Great Auk and other extinct species continue to inspire reflection on extinction, memory, and our relationship with the natural world.

Gone But Not Forgotten is on display from 18th July to 30th September at the Museum of Archaeology, Palace Green , Durham.
