Giulia Tofana is an experimental operatic performance installation produced for the London Design Festival at Brompton Cemetery.
About this Event

Giulia Tofana is an expanded operatic performance produced by Artists in Residence Ushara Dilrukshan and Sonnie Carlebach in collaboration with Anousha Payne, transforming Brompton Cemetery Chapel into a live studio for performance and scenographic experimentation. Inspired by the story of the seventeenth-century figure Giulia Tofana, the work explores feminine resilience, collective knowledge and transformation through voice, movement, sound and spatial design.

Responding to Brompton Design District's Perfectly Imperfect theme, the chapel becomes an open space of experimentation where the process of making is made visible. Anousha Payne presents a bespoke installation, while Fiona Campbell contributes existing sculptural work, together forming an the visual environment. Audiences are invited to witness the performance work in development through rehearsals, testing and experimentation, culminating in a final performance during the closing weekend.
