About this Event
'Our Origin Story' is a series of three talks and panels in 2026 with the theme of radical ideas, DIY culture and community activism from devolution down to street level.
These are part of the Giroscope 40: Lunch Plus programme, celebrating 40 years of Giroscope.
Hear our reflections on direct action and community activism from the last few decades and how these actions are relevant to today’s challenges in communities across the UK.
July will see us return to the Giroscope ‘origin story’ trilogy. Another panel will look at Giroscope’s approach to self-help community-driven housing set in the wider context of the Northern Way group – an alliance of community-based housing organisations across the North of England.
Jon Fitzmaurice, the inspiration behind self-help housing, will join the panel to talk about housing, community regeneration and future plans.
We will allow plenty of opportunity for Q&A.
A free vegetarian lunch will be available.
