Georgia Adopt-A-Stream Bacterial Monitoring Workshop

Have you ever wondered what is in your water and what makes it "clean"?

The Georgia Adopt-A-Stream Bacterial Workshop is designed to teach volunteers how to monitor E. coli levels in their streams. E. coli is a bacteria that is often used to assess the water quality. Monitoring levels of E. coli can help identify possible sources of pollution. This workshop will focus on proper collection of a water sample; transfer of sample onto plates that will be incubated, and proper interpretation of results. Volunteers who successfully perform the bacterial monitoring and pass the written test with a score of 90% or better will be considered a QA/QC volunteer for one year.

Volunteers will learn how to use the Georgia Adopt-A-Stream database to create a group, pick a stream site and enter monitoring data. This program open to adults and teens that are accompanied by an adult and is great for volunteer work, community service and research projects.

Located at the UGA Research Gardens on Ellis Rd., we will be walking a short distance so please bring comfortable walking shoes and clothing you don't mind getting dirty or damp. Bring your lunch and a drink. The Stormwater Department will be providing snacks and water.
