“Gems” by Ronen Vainish

Viewpoints Gallery is thrilled to present our November exhibition “Gems,” featuring breathtaking new glass works by local artist, Ronen Vainish. Ronen’s stunning new collection features hand-blown glass works in an array of brilliant colors and styles that reflect his skillful mastery of glass blowing.

Before discovering his passion and talent for glass blowing, Ronen worked as a software developer who preferred math to the arts. Everything changed about ten years ago when he discovered the art of glass blowing while taking a course at the Bay Area Glass Institute (BAGI). He fell in love with the process and continued taking classes, and learning a variety of glass blowing techniques, including Venetian chandelier, cane and Murrine work, which features gorgeous colored patterns that are revealed when glass is cut into thin cross sections. In addition to taking classes at BAGI, Ronen has traveled extensively to hone his glass blowing skills, including taking courses at the prestigious Corning Museum of Glass in New York and in Murano Italy. While creating his glass sculptures, Ronen strives to delight and surprise viewers with unique color combinations that make each piece stand out. In his latest collection, Ronen achieves these color combinations using brilliantly colored Murrini patterns. In his “Gems” collection, Ronen has created larger pieces that stand alone as breathtaking glass sculptures, saying, “I usually gravitate to larger pieces that can display the full complexity of the colors.

Today, Ronen continues to create gorgeous new glass works at BAGI in the Institute’s new studio at the History Park in San Jose. In addition to glass blowing, Ronen enjoys motorcycle and bicycle riding as well as playing the piano.
