About the music:
Finley Rose is a fiddler, singer, and banjo player living in so-called “Victoria, BC”. Their songwriting is dark yet dreamy. Finn reimagines traditional folk music from many different places.
Hailing from the lowlands of Inner Island, The Marsh Country Halfsteppers sing traditional ballads, original country songs, and play old time fiddle tunes. Influenced by the likes of Doc Watson, Townes Van Zandt, Lucinda William, and many more.
Mahonia is a singing group based on the lands of the Lekwungen speaking peoples and W’SANEC territory. Informed by ancestry and fauna and flora, this harmony focused trio is named after the commonly known Oregon Grape Root, Mahonia Aquifolium. The qualities of this soothing and powerful plant perfectly encapsulate our purpose - to stand together, attuning in song, rooted by the past and flying forward into the future of traditional folk music. Singing as meditation and medicine, remembering languages of our ancestors through song. We sing in English, Scot’s Gaelic and Irish Gaeilge. Mahonia features the voices of Jessamyn Stewart, Magdalene Joly, and Finn Letourneau.
