About this Event
Funded 8-week Intro to British Sign Language Course
This is a new 8-week course funded by Sector 3 in partnership with Walthew House, starting every Tuesday evening from Tuesday 28th April and will run until Tuesday 30th June, with a 2 week pause (Tuesday 19th May and Tuesday 26th May). Each session will be 2 hours long, starting at 6pm and finishing at 8pm.
As this 8-week course is funded, we are charging a £50 refundable cover fee. Once you have completed the course, the £50 will be refunded back to you. Please note, the total amount you will be refunded is £50 (we are unable to refund eventbrite fees).
Over the 8 weeks, the course will cover basic signs to be able to have a simple conversation with a person who signs. You will cover things like greetings, travel, weather, direction, events, animals, emotion, and anything else that comes up through the course.
Your course tutor will be June Battye, from Walthew House, who is Deaf herself with voice and has 30 years experience of teaching BSL Level 1 & 2

Refreshments such as tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.

The Sector 3 offices are on the ground floor with an accessible front entrance, but we can also meet you at the front door, provide ear plugs if you have auditory processing or sensory challenges, or take you to a quiet room before continuing with your visit.
Parking
The Merseyway / Redrock car park is the closest and most accessible car park.
Alternatively Warren Street car park (The Old Sainsburys) charge £6.50 for the whole day, if you're looking for a longer, cheaper option.
Ticket Charges
We will be charging a refundable fee of £50 (+eventbrite fees) per ticket. This will be refunded to you once you have completed the 8-week course. Please note, the total amount you will be refunded is £50 (we are unable to refund eventbrite fees).
About Walthew House
Walthew House is a local charity providing practical and emotional support for people in Stockport living with sight or hearing loss. The charity was founded in 1882 and is named after its founder John Walthew, a former Mayor of Stockport.
Today, we support 400+ local people each week through our range of services for both adults and young people. We rely on donations and fundraising to support our services.
