Fullest Moon of Sonia: Film Screening + Director Conversation

Sonia Sanchez: A continual inspiration to the poets in a city called Philadelphia, a community called Germantown, and far beyond.
About this Event

Join us for a special screening of Fullest Moon of Sonia, followed by a conversation with director Karen Smith exploring filmmaking, poetry, memory, cultural legacy, and the work of documenting a life.

This gathering considers documentary film as a form of public history and living archive.

What can the camera preserve that a written record cannot? How does a filmmaker approach the voice, relationships, artistic practice, and historical significance of a cultural figure? And what responsibilities come with translating a person's life into an audiovisual record for future generations?

Following the screening, Karen Smith will discuss the film's creation and the choices involved in shaping documentary material into story.

The conversation will invite audiences to think about filmmaking as both artistic practice and preservation.
