From Scratch - Songs For Unsung Heroes: performance film

Warm up for the NZIFF marathon with the premiere screening of Songs For Unsung Heroes by FROM SCRATCH, a new take on their 1991 suite Songs For Heroes which was reworked for their concert tour of New Zealand in 2025. Themes of peace, empathy, and hope for the future are at the fore in this film by director John Pain which captures their final show of the series, a fundraiser for the children of Gaza, at the Kāhui St. David’s venue in Tāmaki Makaurau. The film also includes two shorter performances from the same event of the ensemble accompanying video art from two of Aotearoa’s leading practitioners; Black Moon by Teresa Peters, and Metroplex II by Gregory Bennett.
Doors open at 6PM, film starts at 7PM.
