The nation grieves together with the loss of Sam Neill, a man who gave us so many reasons to love him. The movies have always been a place for us to escape the real world, but here we find an intersection - seeing him shining on the big screen is a beautiful way for us to acknowledge what Sam meant to all of us.
Phillip Noyce’s excellent psychological thriller Dead Calm, produced by Mad Max’s George Miller. An adaptation of Charles Williams’ novel of the same name - starring Sam Neill and Nicole Kidman as a married couple sailing off the Australian coast trying to forget the tragic death of their son. The couple encounter a man (Billy Zane) drifting out to sea, and attempt to help him, only to realise too late that he’s mad as a cut snake. The film was a huge critical success and won a number of awards in Australia.
