'ELSEWHERE' A Solo Exhibition by Em Wafer | Opening Night

For her first Auckland solo show, Em Wafer presents Elsewhere, a body of work exploring places both distant and familiar, imagined yet somehow real. Across the exhibition, light becomes a recurring point of focus, drawing the eye through expansive landscapes and inviting moments of curiosity and reflection.
The works are intentionally open-ended, encouraging viewers to slow down, look closely, and form their own connections. Intricately detailed and layered with subtle narratives, Elsewhere allows each painting to reveal itself over time.
The exhibition will run from 6.30pm on the 24th July to the 2nd of August, 2026.
About Em Wafer:
Em Wafer is a New Zealand artist and muralist known for her surreal dreamscapes and microcosmic worlds. Her work balances intimacy with scale, inviting viewers into imagined environments shaped by wonder, mystery and reflection.
At the heart of her work is the relationship between the unique and the universal.
Through scenes that feel both personal and strangely familiar, space is left for individual interpretation. Her paintings unfold gradually, rewarding sustained looking and revealing new connections over time.
Recipient of the 2025 People’s Choice Award at the New Zealand Art Show, she exhibits locally and internationally and has collectors worldwide.
