Dynamical systems are all about understanding how things change over time — a bit like watching a pattern evolve each time you press a button. What's surprising is that even when the underlying rule is very simple, repeating it over and over (say, a million times!) can produce remarkably intricate behavior. In this talk, we'll explore several examples of such evolving systems, see how they connect to familiar ideas like finding the roots of a polynomial, and discover why striking fractal shapes — including the famous Mandelbrot set — appear naturally in this process.About the speaker: Dr. Sabyasachi Mukherjee is an Associate Professor at the School of Mathematics, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai. His reserach insterst are in the area of Conformal Dynamics, Complex Analysis etc. He is also interested in Science Communication.
He is a receipient of several awards including ‘Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar: Vigyan Yuva – Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar’, 2025 and ‘Infosys Prize in Mathematical Sciences’, 2025 .
