The Wayne County Humane Society Board provides a free community cat TNR twice per year. These events are made possible through a grant from the Kenneth Scott Charitable Foundation and volunteer veterinarians and vet techs from clinics in Wayne County.
Our next TNR event is on March 8, 2026.

The WCHS Trap, Neuter, and Return (TNR) event is a community program that humanely manages feral, colony, and community cat populations.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐓𝐍𝐑 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞?
TNR consists of:
Trapping a free‑roaming cat using a humane live trap
Neutering or spaying the cat by a licensed veterinarian
Returning the cat to the exact location where it was originally trapped
This method is proven to safely and effectively reduce the number of free‑roaming cats over time.
𝐖𝐡𝐨 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐞?
Anyone trapping an unowned feral, colony, or community cat located in WAYNE COUNTY, OHIO may participate. By signing up, you acknowledge that you are acting as the temporary agent for the trapped cat(s) solely for the purpose of the TNR procedure.
𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞?
No. All cats brought through this program must be unowned and not adoptable. After surgery and recovery, the cats must be returned to the same location where they were trapped. If a cat is adopted or owned before or after the TNR event, WCHS reserves the right to seek reimbursement for the procedure—no less than $55 per cat, equivalent to low‑cost clinic pricing.
𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐩‑𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐤‑𝐮𝐩 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤?
Drop‑off: Saturday at WCHS
Surgery Day: Sunday
Pick‑up: Monday
Participants are responsible for dropping off and picking up the cat(s) at the required time.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐩 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝?
Only one cat per humane functional live trap
Standard cat carriers are not accepted.
Cats brought in anything other than an appropriate trap will be turned away and deposit will not be returned.
𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐍𝐑 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭?
Yes. Volunteers will visually inspect each cat for health or safety concerns. Any cat may be declined for any reason to protect the wellbeing of the animal or the team.
𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐝?
Each cat receives a rabies vaccination, a meloxicam injection (NSAID for pain), a shorter acting antibiotic injection, and a flea/tick/heartworm topical treatment.
𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐫𝐲?
Yes. All cats will:
Have their ear tipped, and
Receive a tattoo
This universally indicates that the cat has already been spayed or neutered.
𝐂𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐍𝐑?
No. Cats must be returned to their original trapping location. Relocation is not permitted.

This event is for UNOWNED cats located within Wayne County, Ohio who will be trapped, neutered/spayed, and returned to their original outdoor location.

This program is ONLY for unowned feral, stray, colony, or community cats who:
✔️ Live outdoors
✔️ Will be trapped, neutered/spayed, and returned
✔️ Are located in Wooster city limits, Orrville city limits, or elsewhere in Wayne County
If you register using the wrong form or do not meet these criteria, your registration will be cancelled and your deposit refunded.
𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐬
A $10 refundable deposit per cat is required to reserve your spot. If you do not use your spots, you will not be refunded.
(This helps reduce no‑shows for this free service.)
You may optionally make an additional non‑refundable donation to support WCHS free TNR programs.
When paying, please set the Zeffy fee to “custom/0” — this fee does not support WCHS.
After pick‑up, you may choose:
A refund of your deposit, or
To donate all or part of it to support future programs

You must submit one registration form per trapping location.
If you trap cats at multiple sites, please complete a separate form/transaction for each location *using the correct link

1. A completed and signed waiver for EACH cat
You will receive this automatically by email after payment, followed by a reminder email with full drop‑off/pick‑up details.
