Join us for a beginner's morning bird walk in the Old Field area of the Park. Early May is an excellent time of year to look for birds in the park, as many of the migrant songbirds that breed here have just returned and are in full song. These include Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Scarlet Tanager, Indigo Bunting, and Hooded Warbler. Some are heard more easily than seen, such as the Louisiana Waterthrush and Yellow-throated Vireo. We may also see migrant species that are passing through on their way further north, and the many possibilities include Black-throated Green and Black-and-white Warbler. The walk will be led by Jelmer Poelstra, who will be able to identify the different species we'll be seeing and hearing. This will not be a strenuous hike, as we will walk slowly to find the birds. If possible, please bring your own binoculars. If you don’t have binoculars, we will bring some pairs to borrow for the hike. Meet at the Education Area at 7:30 am. The walk will take 2 to 2.5 hours if the weather is good and a little shorter if it is not. These group hikes are brought to you by Friends of Wooster Memorial Park and are free and open to the public. Event will begin at the Education Area. Come prepared for the weather and to have a good time!
