Shim Sham je "državna himna stepa", a je tudi eden od temeljev linijskega plesa med Lindy Hop plesalkami/ci. Znana je po celem svetu, zato ste, ko izvajate Shim Sham, povezani z vsemi ljudmi, ki so ljubitelji jazz glasbe in plesov.
Najbolj znana različica v današnjem Lindy Hop svetu je različica, ki jo je Frankie Manning ustvaril nekje čisto na koncu osemdesetih let. Frankie je uporabil izvirno različico (iz leta 1927-8, plesalca in koreografa Leonard Reed in Willie Bryant), vendar brez step korakov, vključil pa je tudi drugi refren z nekaj klasičnimi solo jazz koraki: boogie naprej, boogie backs in shorty georges.
Po delavnici bo sledil Pogovorni večer: Gledanje jazza – razumevanje njegovih zgodb in dediščine.
Ogledali si bomo znane in manj znane posnetke jazza iz preteklosti ter raziskali, kako jih lahko vidimo in slišimo na globlji ravni – onkraj samega plesa in glasbe. Skupaj bomo odkrivali zgodovinske in kulturne kontekste, ki so oblikovali te nastope, razpravljali o vizualnem in glasbenem jeziku jazza ter spoznali, kaj nam lahko ti vpogledi povedo danes.

The Shim Sham may be the national anthem of tap, but it is one of the cornerstones of Lindy Hop line dance. Lindy Hoppers and tap dancers all over the world know it, so when you do the Shim Sham, you're connected to jazz loving people everywhere.
The most known version in today's Lindy Hop World is the version which Frankie Manning created somewhere in the very end of 1980s. Frankie used the original version (from 1927-8, when Leonard Reed met Willie Bryant), but without taps and he also included another chorus with boogie forwards, boogie backs and shorty georges.
After workshop we will have Evening Talk: Watching Jazz – Understanding Its Stories and Legacy.
We'll watch rare and iconic jazz clips from the past and explore how to truly see and listen to them. Together, we'll uncover the historical and cultural contexts that shaped these performances, discuss the visual and musical language of jazz, and discover what these insights can teach us today.
