Form poetry can be scary, with so many rules to remember. But not all forms are equally complicated and with practice they all can be challenging and fun. We're going to explore ways of training the brain to love structured poetry. Bring a pen or device and let Dr Strangemarty be your form guide.
Monostich is a one line only form, but it forms the core of our work to come. It’s excellent practice for concision and craft.

Steve Smart began his career in poetry with the form commonly known as a rant. Some might say this is not a form at all, it’s just a rant. Which is fair. Over the years he has written in a wide variety of forms (triolet, sonnet, monostich, ghazal), most often coming back to the villanelle and his beloved sestina. He does not believe that form poetry needs to be dry or lacking in humour. Form can be fun, and the constraints can be liberating.
