Forged, Cast, Remembered: An Elmwood & Metal Museum Experience
About this Event
A walking tour presented by Elmwood Cemetery and the Metal Museum
Step beyond the stone and discover the remarkable artistry cast in bronze and forged in iron throughout historic Elmwood Cemetery.
Join Elmwood Cemetery and the Metal Museum for a history-turned-metal walking tour exploring the craftsmanship, symbolism, and stories behind some of the cemetery's most striking monuments and decorative fences. Along the way, you'll learn how these works of art were created and the history of the people they honor.
Metal Museum experts James Vanderpool, Assistant Director of Foundry and Design, and Kevin Burge, Assistant Director of Repair and Restoration, will share their knowledge of bronze casting, ironwork, conservation, and restoration. Elmwood's Amanda Zorn will bring each stop to life with the stories of the individuals and families commemorated by these memorials.
Whether you're fascinated by history, public art, or craftsmanship, this unique collaboration offers a new way to experience one of Memphis's most beautiful historic landscapes.
