Forest Bathing, Ecology & Foraging Workshop
About this Event
Reconnect with the land, deepen your understanding of forest ecosystems, and learn to read the living language of nature.
Join us at Pacific Spirit Regional Park for an immersive and educational forest walk that invites us to slow down, observe, and connect more deeply with the natural world around us.
Together, we will explore the intricate layers of the forest, from the canopy above to the life unfolding beneath our feet. We will learn about forest canopy levels, microclimates, and the life cycles that sustain these ecosystems. Along the way, we will identify native plant species, observe the relationships between living things, and discover how the land communicates through its patterns, textures, and seasonal changes.
This is an opportunity to move beyond simply walking through a forest and begin understanding it as a living, interconnected community.
🌱 What to expect:
- Explore the different layers of a forest canopy and the life each layer supports.
- Learn how microclimates shape forest ecosystems.
- Discover native plant species and their ecological roles.
- Explore forest life cycles and the interconnectedness of living things.
- Practice reading the visual language of the land through observation and mindful presence.
- Learn about native plant seeds and their role in restoring and nurturing local ecosystems.
A little something to take with you
Where appropriate and permitted, participants will have the opportunity to take home native plant seeds, with the intention of growing them in a suitable place where they can contribute to the beauty and biodiversity of their local environment. This could be a garden, a community planting space, or another appropriate location nearby. You do not need to have your own land to participate in this act of care.
Land Acknowledgement
We gather on the unceded, traditional, and ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) people, whose relationship with these lands and waters has existed since time immemorial.
We recognize that the forest is not simply a place to visit, but a living ecosystem within a much older relationship between Indigenous Peoples and the land. We honour the knowledge, stewardship, and enduring presence of the Musqueam people, and invite participants to approach this experience with humility, respect, and a willingness to learn.
May this walk deepen our sense of responsibility to the places we inhabit and inspire us to care for the more-than-human world.
